What identification do I need to prove that I’m a veteran?

To access Veterans Day discounts, active duty military personnel, National Guard reservists, and military retirees can utilize their military ID card. Veterans who receive health benefits from the VA can use their VA benefits photo ID card as proof of veteran status at most businesses.

If you don’t have a VA benefits card, the VA offers a Veterans ID Card program. Honorably discharged veterans can apply online and receive a card by mail, serving as proof of service and widely accepted by most businesses.

Some states allow veterans to include their veteran status on state ID cards and driver’s licenses, providing an additional form of identification.

If all else fails, most businesses recognize the DD-214 as valid proof of service.
